Cutting coving

What do you use to cut coving ? I have a std mitre saw but have been told this will not do the job.

I have bought some 75mm polystyrene coving from tool station. They sell a wondermitre tool. Would this do the job ?

I tend to just use the 4.99 mitre box because that's what I already have but the Coveasy might be worth trying and use the finest cut tenon saw they do.

Just check it is deep enough to cut the full depth of the mitre box.

Before starting cut two inside mitres and two outside mitres and mark them as pairs, use them to check the orientation of your cove each time before you cut, it's amazing how many times you can cut the wrong way!! ;)

when asked to do coving I usually end up filling between two coving pieces because the walls are not at 90 degrees.

I've been doing some coving recently, I have the coveasy, works well, but as deandiy61 says, you tend to have to fill corners as walls are not @ 90 degrees

FWIW you can make your own mitre box or buy a very cheap plastic box. A cheap 12" hack saw will do for cutting the cove and a rasp will ease the join. (you can make your own rasp from an off-cut of wood an a bit of nailed on mesh or similar).

Dont sweat it - its not cabinet work and all joins will be filled or touched up with adhesive and then painted.

In the cove packaging wasn't there a couple of paper templates for marking/cutting mitres?
