Having had our drawings done and approved, do I have to use my architect for the cals.? As he is asking for more money. Or can I use someone else? If so do I just post them my plans?

I'm happy to pay, I am having a rear extension done. So the rear wall will be taken out and the wall between the kitchen and lounge.

Anyone want to give me a quote for the calculations?

Andy

Check that your council actually needs calculations.

Many don't need need them for standard openings up to a certain width. You just specify a 7x4 or 8x4, and they agree it.

If the council do want calcs, then avoid anyone with a copy of Superbeam who will just input some figures and out pops a calculation for just the beam. Have it done by a proper engineer who will consider all loading implications and the supporting walls.

You will only need calculations if you have not complied fully with the requirements of Part A of B.Regs.

Most LA's and Approved Inspectors will check your application against Part A. If they want additional calculations they will ask for them.
