Hi folks.I'm replacing 4 doors in my flat and I'm also having new carpet/underlay.Typically what should be done first?
I'm thinking if the doors are done first it will save the new carpets being messed if they have to be cut etc but if the doors are hung first the carpet/underlay might not leave enough space for the doors to open/close properly.
I'm planning on getting the white pre painted ones(6 pannel)doors.
What's the best way to go here?

Its the chicken and the egg thing. Whenever I hung doors for people who were having new carpets later I always left half an inch gap, never had any complaints it was too much once carpets were down or you could ask your joiner to play it safe with the view of coming back to tickle them up if they're dragging, he/she may not want to do that without further payment and may opt to play it safe and leave enough first time round

The guy would come back and sort it if there were any problems.Would just prefer to get it right first time. That's maybe an idea.Just get him to leave an inch or so.Would it help if I took a note of the thickness of the underlay and carpet before having him hang the dooors to give him an idea of how much space to leave or do you think the inch left should be enough?
Thanks.

AN INCH NO WAY PEDRO.

all the chippy has to do is have an idea of the thickness of the carpet/underlay and hang the doors accordingly using a made up block of timber/wedges,that includes how the door swings through its plain.that way it shouldnt foul the carpet once it is fitted.
