Good morning,

I removed an old radiator whilst refurbing my daughters bedroom, I used push fit (JG) to relocated the rad then fitted a brand new type 21 radiator from Screwfix. (A job I have done quite a few times in different rooms) when I put the heating on the radiator took an age to get hot and when it did, it seemed to get hot from the top.

The pipes and where the valve connects to the rad were boiling hot within secs but the heat just didn't get through the rad for a a good 5 minutes. When it eventfully heated up I'm sure the top was hotter than the bottom.

My set up is a combi boiler and I had bled all the radiators. Pressure was approx 1.3 bar.

Have I missed something obvious?

King regards

Did you check that both (new) rad valves were fully open ;)

Hi Nige,

The TRV was fully open but I've been told to only open the other side by no more than one full turn.

Do you recommend opening that side fully?

Open it enough for the rad to get hot, but not to upset the balance of the rest of the system.

Plus best to open it all the way to clear any air, then close it down.

Hi gigz,

I'll try it later and let you know how I get on.

I think I might balance my system anyway once this rad is working correctly. It hasn't been done in n
Over 5 years

Thanks

Yes- then IF there is a balancing problem you know what caused it - it will probably be fine.
