Cable rated at 10 amps or more will suit you fine......thicker stuff may not pass through clamps or cable glands, of course.

I ask the nice gentle at my local tip for the cable off old lawn mowers, strimmers etc, check it's undamaged and then fit extra long cables, the assortment of colour also lets me id which tool is which.
