Hi, forgive my ignorance, hopeless with electrics..

My young son kindly pulled the shower isolation cord in the bathroom repeatedly, whilst the shower was running. Now the shower shows no signs of life (no lights, no water etc). The isolation cord box does still light up when the cord is pulled.

Any ideas before I buy a new one!

Any help gratefully appreciated, thanks.

Does the neon on the shower unit (if fitted) illuminate?

Thanks for your quick reply.. No small light on shower doesn't illuminate when button on shower pressed.. if that's what you meant??

Would be sensible to test to see if you have 230V at the shower unit before doing much else.

Do you know how to do this (safely)?

Clearly there won't be as the neon in the pull switch does not light.

First things first. Have any trip switches tripped on the consumer unit?

Loose connection on the outgoing side of the pullcord switch? The switch must still be working if it still lights. (assuming the light on the pull switch only comes on when the switch is in the on position) Though the contacts may be damaged after being repeatedly opened and closed under full load.

(y) This is where I would start testing.

Thanks all, have decided it must be the shower unit itself, as when I press the shower button on/off, the neon in the pull switch goes on/off. My Son will be getting a new shower for christmas..

Can you elaborate on that a bit more?

So far I've seen nothing to definately say the shower unit is knackered.

A faulty shower pull cord with neon can give many strange misleading results.

You really need to check that the shower unit is getting it's live and neutral. (And earth of course.)

By your own admission you are hopeless with electrics. So when you replace this shower and the same thing happens, what then?

A faulty shower would not cause the pull switch neon to go on/off. A high impedance in the supply would and given the circumstances of your son abusing the switch the switch is the most likely culprit. A switch would be a much cheaper Christmas present than a new shower.

The symptoms you describe suggest a faulty N connection somewhere.
