hi. I removed the wallpaper when we moved in on the chimney breast and wall. There seems to be an odd brown coat of something on here. Is this simply brown paint or something special because there was a fire on this wall. Should I be worried about this? House built around 1950 onwards And previous owner did nothing so assuming all is original.

Looks like Brown Emulsion paint to me,
Chocolate Brown and Bottle Green were "Trend Setters" in Colour in those days .

That's what I was thinking but you never know do you. Been worrying it's been uncovered all this time and only just thought about it today. Also noticed on some original wood there seems to be green under the white coats. Purchased a lead testing kit just to be safe.
