However, if you bear in mind that the only good thing to come out of France is a letter ...............

Over 35% of French cars fail their first MOT, hardly surprising the French require mot's only every two years.

Depreciation on French cars for all their toys is like falling off a cliff. Buy German, should be some good prices at vw soon what with all the cars they are supposedly going to buy back or jap.

Nissan is in partnership with Renault and the Qashqai uses the 1.5dci motor. Bloomin' good it is, too.
Personally I have few issues with French engineering - all manufacturers will have problems with the latest euro emissions, largely due to impossible targets!
Japanese products made in the UK aren't a patch on those that were made in Japan, in my opinion.
John :)

I have to say I've had my bubble well and truly burst when it comes to Jap reliability and build quality! We specifically went for a Nissan X-Trail T30, rather than the newer T31 for Mrs Avocet because the T30 was Jap-designed and Jap-built, whereas the T31 uses a variety of Renault bits (including the engine). So far, I've spent more money on it than on BOTH her previous Alfas (yes, Alfas!) PUT TOGETHER! She's very fond of it, and it certainly has its good points, but I've been surprised at what I've had to change since we got it. There is an excellent UK X-Trail forum though, with good technical advice, but looking on there, it seems that nothing I've had going wrong has been that uncommon.

How about a Mazda CX 3?
Actually, drove a lot of miles in the US - Mazda CX-5... I would/will buy, I was so impressed ! We were banging the speed limits mostly 70 odd and 65 mph - computer said 28 mpg. I really liked the car, as did accompanying drivers .
BUT, we suffered a cracked windscreen (1st time in over 40 yrs for me) somewhere around North Dakota - following a blizzard, a school bus and road treatment - A replacement window? - Apparently a flaw in the CX5 armour... No way - Non available.
As an aside - Never been USA driving ? Do it !!! What a place, incredible... Never saw the supposed fat peeps, plenty of fit ladeez and overall very friendly peeps - great memories, rented from Uk with 'Alamo' We eventualy utilised 3 different vehicles excellent, service no added costs very, very pleased with over 6k miles !!

I could still be tempted on the CX-5 - Guess I will prevaricate until ****ed off, then buy on the spur of the moment...!

The spur of the moment is approaching... 'kin ell was a better experience when I couldn't afford that much, now things are significantly different - Massive dilemma !
Liked the latest Mazda 3 and MX5 - f'k, at 70 cannot (or do not want to) handle sitting on the road bar a few inches !!
So, the range diminishes, but currently shutdown for winter...

OR - Audi A3 Quattro !!! The name inspires, the transmission entices - fishtailing and consequently parked up BMWs regal the winter memories - of times maybe not so long past !!

Well the VW Group is going to have to do something pretty drastic if it is to counter the ongoing decline in sales following Emissiongate – 20% drop for last month.

It is, then, a propitious time to rock-up to local franchise, dangle your ill-gotten under the gaze of Darren and cut yourself a deal. Are you going for petrol, Pip? Unclear as to whether such savings would be here, though. I'd probably steer away from DSG and opt for the manual, though, they seem to have their devotees.
