My PC does not have a working HDMI port, and I wanted to connect my PC to my HDTV. I'm thinking of going USB-to-HDMI adapter, but I'm not sure which one to get. Does anyone have some recommendations for this? Thanks in advance.

If your laptop has no HDMI and has no VGA then USB may work but you should check very carefully about the USB port speed. These are not just cable/socket adapters that reorientate the wiring. They're actually an external graphics card. This means you'll need at least a USB 2.0 port to support a HDTV display at 1080p/24 or 1080i 50hz.

Once you know the port speed you'll then need to research what operating systems the device works with. Some don't work with later versions of Windows.

Sorry to heap on more issues but the next is whether the adapter supports HDCP. This might not be so important unless you're trying to play Blu-ray rips; but it's something to bear in mind. Finally, consider what might happen if the laptop operating system gets updated. Will the adapter still work?

So all-in-all a straight recommendation might work great for me but not work for you. You need to do a little bit of research for yourself to understand the gear you already own before throwing some money down on someone else's say so.

The alternative might be simpler: A VGA to HDMI adapter.
