Putting up wall lights after redecoration

You mention the old wall light wiring plugs into a socket.
*($&*%@#~!

I'd just about got that image out of my mind, and now you've refreshed it.

It sounds as though the previous wiring (through wall, out and plugged into a socket) was, shall we say, tacky to put it mildly.

If the run is short and the existing cable (or maybe flex?) can be used to pull through a new length of suitable cable, then perhaps it would be possible to spur from the socket and use a switched FCU mounted at suitable height on the wall where the cable runs. But much depends upon what's already there.

I had visions of BAS being in his 60's, retired with plenty of time to spend on this forum!

Is BAS perhaps considering "not even close" to be a bi-directional statement?
I wasn't close to being born either, I was already 32 years from being born!

I think you're right, I obviously meant I wasn't alive.

I suspect Ban was being ironic, in that his birth may have been the OTHER side of 1980...

This install may well be fed from a TT supply.

In which case, RCD protection is a must-have, plus checking the earthing electrode.
