The other day I needed a spare plug and did not have any spare, so decided to take the one of a X10 automation timer that I rarely use. I bought the X10 timer around 5-6 years ago, so not old by any means.

The Plug it came with:

Dare (or need!) we ask what continent you bought the plug (and attached cable) from? :)

Kind Regards, John

From the UK of course!:rolleyes: I got it from: http://www.letsautomate.com/ (Note: They no longer sell the product.)

The Domia Mini X10 timer came with the plug already wired as it is as shown in my photo. I only found out the other day when I opened the plug up for the first time ever.

The BS number is wrong I note so one can expect this sort of thing. In real terms it does not matter, but if the colours are old then what other items don't comply with today's regulations. However it would not really worry me. If it does the job then why worry.

I wonder what the odds are of that 'fuse' actually being a fuse? Also, 13A fuse for what looks like 0.5mm cable?

Don't know, but if I can find the supposed 13A fuse I will open it. Also the black flex is not moulded flex at all, just some cheap, thin and very brittle sleeving.

Yea, that is a BS number for a old style round pin plugs.

All standard for much of the stuff coming out of China these days, unfortunately. The manufacturer probably uses the same "flex" for d.c. power supply outputs and everywhere else they need something similar to keep costs down. The incorrect BS546 designation just goes to show that they really have no idea about the U.K. market.

As for the color code, for a good few years now a lot of telephone equipment made in China and sold in the U.K. has been fitted with line cords using black/red/green/yellow instead of the British standard white/green/blue/red (the former is the North American standard). They just use the same cord on everything to keep production as cheap as possible.

Because when I was younger, I was mad on X10 automation and wanted everything including the garage door :notworthy: to be controlled with X10. Even could open the garage door from anywhere in the world. :?::cautious:

What you see in the picture is the X10 relay hooked up to the motor of the garage door.

I totally understand the home automation desire, once I'm happy on a system, I will likely look at taking the plunge. However, I was referring to the method of fixing it to the conduit. I mean, at least you used white tape......

If you really want to see something tacky and have got 2 mins to kill:

Yea that was pretty ropey. Have you actually got the x10 fire alarm set up as a system? Or was that video a proof of concept?

Oh gimmegimmegimmegimmegimme.

How I have managed to live all my life without being able to open the garage door from anywhere in the world I cannot begin to comprehend.
