Re-fitting Radiator to Freshly Skimmed Wall

Hi,

I am in the process of skimming a room in my house. I have one wall left to do - the one with the radiator fitted to it.

After skimming how long do I need to wait to drill back through the plaster and re-fit the brackets to wall?

Why don't you leave the screws in position and skim round them . That's what I do,,

So I skim around the screws, but then how long should I wait before re-fitting the bracket, can I re-fit the radiator the same day or will I compromise the skim coat?

just skim around the whole bracket leave it in place.

You can refit the rad on the brackets when you have finished skimming. I would leave it off for a while so the wall can all dry at the same time.

Better taking them off, skimming the wall flat and refitting brackets. Going around stuff is a bit John Wayne.

I wouldn't say that joe a good plasterer can go round the brackets and leave them nice and clean and tidy, when he's finished and you wont see behind the rads anyway!!

To jump on this question with a little twist as i'm having pretty much the same done.

My rads are off & the walls have been hit with various mixes - sand & cement, tanking, renderlite & then eventually will be skimmed. So it's not a case of leave the screws in place as we've gone beyond that stage now.

When they finish skimming the walls - back to the original persons question here ... how long should i leave it before the rads are put back on the wall? Can they go immediately (we're in no rush to paint) or do they have to wait until it's dried out?
