Need new boiler, Cost ideas.

Prices have come down a lot now, they're about an extra £120 over the cost of the equivalent HRE. Some customers will willingly pay the extra £40 a year for the longer warranty

Most of mine like the cheaper Rapid model to lessen the up front cost.

In London many people don't expect to be in the same place in five years time.

People are starting to fit the ECO because the price is relatively close now and it has an RF module built in ready to take a wireless stat.

You have to be a platinum installer to qualify for the longer warranty, I suggest you ask your installer to call head office and see what they can do for him about the warranty on this one. They may be able to advise him.

Ok
So getting a quote of 1900 from a p5 installer for the boiler i sent earlier on the link. Iz this quote ok? He will do chemical flush, magnetic filter, limescale inhibitor. For extra 100pounds he will give wireless thermostat.
I am going against everyone, even my wife :) (brave me) to go for intergas instead of valliant, but I trust what you people would say as you are in the business and know it well. People think i am crazy when i ask them to go for a dell instead of the fancy hp's with nice speakers but what works really works.

Is chemical flush equal to power flush?

The boiler is being installed now but I generally told him that i am expecting rads to get better after flushing with which he was a little surprised. He showed me a bottle of inhibitor and said this is chemical for flush?

So is he not doing power flush?

It sounds as if you have chosen someone who has started work without having clarified exactly what he is doing for you.

Then he shows you inhibitor and tells you that it is a chemical for flushing!

I use Sentinel X800 for chemical flushing if the system is a bit dirty or Fernox F3 if its pretty clean.

For inhibitor I use Sentinel X100.

My installation charge of £840 includes whatever is needed to clean the system, that's usually chemical flushing but can be power flushing if that is needed but that's at my discretion as I guarantee the cleanliness.

If there is any flow problems on the rads then I try to identify that in advance as if power flushing is definitely required then I would charge a little more. But if I did not diagnose that then I would do the power flushing at no extra.

Based on you are saying about him I would be a little worried. But it my be that you are not portraying it correctly.

If you are expecting some difference on the rads after cleaning, then that implies that there is a problem which you have not disclosed to the installer. We always expect customers to tell us everything relevant before we start.

A powerflush would require a machine being connected to the pipework and each radiator being cleaned in turn.

Inhibitor wouldn't be used in a flush at all. This is for the protection of the system and would be the last thing to go i on a clean system.

With a flush you should be looking at a cleaner going through. Sentinal X300 or Fernox F3 or similar.

A chemical flush will generally just have the cleaner running around the system using the systems own pump where as the powerflush uses the external machine.

If the chemical flush is done in the best way then it will be done with each radiator in turn using the boiler/system pump and usually warm too.

Doing it that way, which is time consuming too, its nearly as good as a power flush.

The only main differences are that its not possible to reverse the flow and the flow rate is not as fast as using a proper flushing pump.
