I need to replace a basin pop-up waste with a standard waste with removable plug.
Will the lower section of the old pop-up waste (i.e. the bit where the lever passes through the pipe) screw onto a standard waste so I don't need to raise the height of the trap?

TIA Mike

If you are replacing the lever action waste, with a sprung waste. What do you intend to do with the lever rod? As removing this from bottom section of the waste will break the water seal.

the lever etc will stay, possibly cut off and sealed with mastic. It just needs a 'normal' plug hole with a mesh to stop things being dropped in it.

I personally have never tried to mix manufacturers basin waste components. I doubt the top part of the unit of one manufacturers basin waste will fit the bottom of another.
Depending on your trap type, you maybe able to buy a telescopic trap. Is there a reason why you do not want to alter the waste, is it inaccessible?

It is awkward to get at behind the basin pedestal, but the main problem is time. It's a job for my mother-in-law and I'm only here for the weekend with limited tools and parts and no contingency if I can't get it to fit. If it was a simple swap, I'd have a go.
Looks like it will have to wait until next visit.

Thanks for the tip about telescopic traps.

Cheers,
Mike
