I think you'll need to remove the door card and polythene to reveal the mechanism.....chances are there's a tooth missing from the metal gear quadrant that lifts the window.
You should be able to raise the window by pressing your palms on each side of the glass and lifting it, just to get you out of bother.

hello john
thanks for responding, to be honest i thought that was the case, just didn't know what set up was like in this car.
obviously i haven't taken door card off yet ( as its been raining mad ). is the name , metal gear quadrant a generic name for it ( is it the name on this particular car ) ? also, is it fixed with pop rivets ( hope not ) ??

trying to find maintenance manual on this car is near on impossible, how annoying

thanks
paul

Designs vary, Paul but once you can get the door card off, you'll probably see a metal toothed quadrant, not dissimilar to the gearing on a two port valve.....they are pretty thin, exposed to wet and have a pretty hard life. ( Some systems have cables too). Either way, you'll see the mechanism move and then jump when it comes to the end of its travel.
Typically to shift the door card, it's all handles and arm rest off, have a look for screws at the bottom and side, and then the panel should pop off using a broad blade tool. Some cards need to be lifted up too. Once that's out of the way, there's a polythene liner stuck on with a silicone bead that you peel away.
Usually the mechanisms are held by screws, some by pop rivets but wait until you have the replacement before drilling them out!
Be lucky

thank a lot for your help john, will have a look tomorrow to see what I'm facing ( thats the only way ).
thanks again

Most welcome Paul.....unfortunately I just can't recall how the glass clips to the mechanism, but again that should be obvious enough.
Ebay breakers are probably the way to go here for the part.
John :)
