Evening all,
first of all, my apologies for probably posting this in the wrong place, but it is a trade related (kind of) question.
I'm sick and tired of my tools going rusty in the back of my van. The roof sweats/condensates so much, it almost rains on the inside at times! How do you guys get over this problem? I'm probably going to insulate with something, but don't want to go ott as it's a work van.
The van (xlwb ducato) is water-tight with no leaks or rust (yet)
My last van (a master) was sweaty and I installed vents in the back doors and a roof spinner, on the old argument of insufficient ventilation, but these made no difference I could see.
Any and all suggestions most welcome,
cheers
swith.

Seriously, if it's as bad as that I would have to suggest that water is getting in somewhere.....have you checked the front carpets, and behind the seats for wet?
John :)

Cheers for all replies thus far..... The van is definitely dry, door seals, roofrack mounting points, rubber grommets in floor, they're all good. I'm thinking about sticking some sort of laminate flooring underlay to the roof, I was considering using carpet but reckon this will get soggy?

For condensation to occur, there has to be a high moisture content inside the van - at least to some degree.
So, where is the moisture coming from? I think a floor covering is a good move, it keeps that surface warmer.
My own van has no such issues....it has a rubber floor liner plus a B&Q mat, and some contract carpet which covers the lower half of the sides. No condensation at all!
John :)

I've found that ply lining a van helps considerably, as well as a bit of carpet on the floor. I stuffes some mineral wool left over from one job between the ply and the steel body and it seems to have made the van warmer as well as most definitely making it less "boomy". I still keep my tools in boxes (many with VCI paper in the bottoms) and I wipe them with an oily rag from time to time. Very necessary up here in the Pennines

Your last van was sweaty which suggests its your trade that is bringing in the moisture ...what do you do
