How much to build & fit a gate?

I'm looking for a wooden gate. We had one but it was too far down the side of the house.

We have just had an exterior mains point installed & i'd like the gate the driveway side of this so nobody could access it. Plus i'd just like a tall gate down the side anyway.

Red arrow is where the electrical point is, green arrows are where i was considering the gate being put.

Hopefully there's some handymen on here & i was just wondering roughly what i should expect for this job?

The cheapest way (are you going to DIY this?) is to have a look at what the likes of Wickes etc have to offer....they do a reasonable range of metal gates too.
It depends on the span, really....a bespoke gate will be much more expensive if it has to be specially made.
At least there's good support for the posts, but there's a step on the left that would need to be catered for.

The old gate was where the step was too so all should be good. It hinged on the step side actually. There was a wooden post on each side/wall.

I wont be doing it myself, but someone will (ideally). The clue is in the name - i'm pretty hopeless tbh. Whatever gate we do have it'll have to be so it isn't see through & also so you can't just stride over it.

Well, if I was making a bespoke gate, I'd charge you a days labour (materials not included) but that would be a gate to size and design, and weather proofed. The timber would be tantalised. I'd collect the timber.
I'd arrive on site with two posts, fix the gate and sort the hinges and catches so there would be nothing else to do. I'd charge half a day for that, plus travel at 45p per mile.

Would you take offence at someone getting the timber in?

Let's say (for example) you was to do this for me. I can get the timber in cheaper than what you would charge me for it. But i don't know if people can get funny over customers buying the materials in.

Personally I prefer to collect my own timber from a timber yard, rather than the likes of the diy sheds......only so I can choose the straight lengths, really! I have no problem using quality stuff that has been brought in, providing it is suitable.
I don't have a great mark up on materials like this, only van mileage and of course, my time to collect. I also know where I can source quality hinges and latches, rather than put up with the light duty rubbish we see so often on display.

Wickes do a self assembly timber gate which is adjustable in width to around a metre.

I'd be pretty similar to Burnerman for a custom made gate in pressure treated softwood. I think a standard 1.8*0.9 wooden gate could be made to fit though if 4" posts and a fillet were used so maybe £120 - £ 130 for materials (unless you want a fancy lock) and half a day for fitting.
