Hi folks, I'm thinking of building a holiday let style log cabin, I'm a bricky/builder so no problem with the services and base but are there any architects that specialize in field, also what type and where do I source the wood please.
Thankyou in advance for any relevant information

The farmers round here have bought them in kit form which they reckon is the most cost effective method. Bit like buying a shed often costs more to buy all the wood.

that's the usual method you can have pretty much anything you want designed and then built by the maufacturs and it then turns up in kit form.
Obviously they can be stick built on site but I would have thought the labour cost would make it prohibitive. also for anything more than a very simple structure the joints and connections are something probably better machined in a factory

It depends if you want a log cabin, or something that looks like a log cabin. If it's the latter, then that's easy to DIY with no specialist manufacture required.

I've just been checking out various manufacturers online and one in particular warrants a phone call, they are quoting about £19k which includes a kitchen, bathroom, electrics and plumbing and fully insulated, many thanks for your helpful comments which steered me in this direction..

Hi, I'm also wanting to build a log cabin and since your a builder I wondered if you could help with the foundation information. My husband can build the cabin as he's a joiner but I've got no idea what it will cost for foundations. could you give me a rough guide on a concrete pad 16.5 meters by 6 meters? Also what site were you looking at for the ready made cabins?
