Dear forum members,

We have Worcester 28i junior boiler installed by British Gas (BG) 20 month ago and have been facing a leakage problem for the last few weeks (see this thread), suspecting that pressure relief valve (PRV) is faulty , and today when a gas engineer from our insurance company came to replace the PRV he discovered that expansion vessel (EV) was not connected. He classified it as "incorrect installation" and said this will void our insurance policy. He also suggested to contact BG asap and get this fixed.

Now, as it's been 20 months ago and we don't have any policy with BG anymore - whom shall we call to get this fixed? Does BG have a special department that deals with such cases?

Thank you

Your boiler comes with a built in EV if I recall! How was it not connected? Maybe it wasn't charged correctly, that's a possibility. A service within the warranty period would have picked up the fault. It's probably still under warranty form WB.

The engineer showed me that that plastic pipe from EV was suspended (not connected anywhere). In terms of charge - engineer who came a few days ago said EV pressure was low, so he topped it up to 1 bar.

Plastic pipe from EV? Are you sure you're not talking about condensate? I very much doubt BG would do such a blatant thing. Suggest you call BG service and explain the situation and let them come and inspect. I'm sure your boiler comes with 2 yrs warranty.

If the expansion vesel wasnt connected the pressure would be all over the place, can you post up a picture of the plastic pipe from the expansion vessel ?

I am sure. He took the condensate box out and he specifically said that EV is not connected. He showed me an orange cap on top of EV and there was like ~inch long flexible pipe coming out of EV and not connected anywhere.
He took a pic and called his boss and they qualified this as incorrect installation.

I'm sure your boiler comes with 2 yrs warranty.
with who - BG or Worcester? I think if the installation is incorrect, BG should fix it, right?

The pressure was rising up from 1.1 (cold) to 3 bar (boiler working) and PR pipe outside was collecting water every day (anything from 150 to 600 ml).
The guy said if PR was connected the pressure would only rise by 0.5 bar or so, certainly not to 3 bar as at 3 bar PRV is made to pass.

sorry, don't have a pic and can't make it as I can't strip off the boiler myself to get access to it.

Yes and they should offer re-compense for the inconvenience caused, and provide an apology for the hazard created should the pressure relief valve have failed to operate.

Sounds like BG engineer has left his extension hose for charging the vessel on the vessel TBH ;)
Let's see if I am right.

Just read your other thread and the PRV isn't leaking.
Sounds like you have a system leak as if expansion vessel was faulty the PRV would be dripping.
