Only by connecting L and N to the wires that actually go to the motor; not the connector block.

These fans can be used without the timer module (you have to buy it seperately in fact). So, isolate everything and undo the cable restraint and see if there is enough slack in the loft to pull some extra cable through and connect it like this....
(brown sleeve should still be on the black BTW. And the CPC can go into a connector block also)
...without the timer module in there at all of course and with the permanent live in it's own seperate connector block. If the fan works fine wired like this, then yes, you need a new timer module.

Hi
My icon airflow fan has just died in the bathroom so I bought a new control unit still did not work so i bought a new fan wired it in and still not working??
So now I'm stuck would it be the isolation switch to the fan that is faulty or is there a fuse somewhere ?
Any help apprieated

Aubrey, with respect. Would you try and fix a flat tyre on your car without a wheel nut spanner?
Go and buy a multimeter or a two-probe voltage tester. You can then test to see if there is voltage going into your timer module and/or if there is voltage coming out of the timer module into the fan.
A multimeter is about £6 at Maplins, thats a lot cheaper than just buying random components and hoping you hit on the resolution!

Ok I have a multi metre but do no know how to use it? Got loads of settings

At least you have one, so that's a start.
For this job you'll need to measure AC voltage. The mains supply will be on, so extreme care is needed.
First of all, learn about your multimeter.

Is that on the input side of the timer module?
I cannot see how those terminals are marked.????
You should have brown in L, grey in N and the black (sleeved brown) in the T.
Then. With the light off - you should have mains voltage between N and L and nothing between N and T
Then, with the light on, you should see mains voltage between N and T
Does that check out?

Hi it checks out until you put the light on there's nothing showing between N and T
OK, so thats where your problem. T has to go to 230v to start the fan.
You could try linking out L and T with a short bit of wire just to see if the fan&timer work.
Then you'll have to trace the wire back and find where the black wire goes. Check in the isolation switch first, the 3-core&eart cable may be connected at the light fitting…

By connecting the L and T which a short bit of wire worked? And now I have taken the short bit of wire away connecting the L and T together and it's still working? Comes on when I turn the light on and goes off when the timer runs out? So I don't know what that short bit of wire did but it seems to give a kick!

And we now have 251v between the N and T with the light on
Hmm. I would have a good look at the black wire and make sure it isnt broken/damaged somewhere.
