Applying silicone sealant in shower

I have no issues fitting the shower, the cubicle or anything else but one thing i am not good at is applying silicone. What is the best way, mask it and then remove the masking tape immediately after applying ?, smooth out any bad bits with washing up on finger ?. Am tempted by this Fugi tool. A ****e job with the gun makes the whole job look bad, want to get this right.

It's the tape method for me....push the silicone well in with a finger, then remove the tape and ever so gently go over again, but not to squish the stuff out this time.

I'm no expert DIYer but have got silicone sussed, for me, obviously completely clean surfaces, apply a good masking tape to allow say a 3mm max joint and make sure it's well adhered, apply copious quantity of a high quality silicone and get going with a wet finger, I've never bothered about washing up liquid, take your time and keep feathering into the corner firmly until it's flush with the tape, (have copious amounts of kitchen towel available to wipe the excess onto and expect lots of wastage) remove tape imediatly. When you're running your finger along try to keep a very consistent pressure/angle of your finger to the corner. After removing the tape run your wet finger very gently along the joint to really feather the edges. Take your time.

Need to get the final little skin of the old silicone off as the no nonsense stuff does not seem to get it off. Need to get it off as new shower cubicle sides are slightly narrower. Have tried scouring pads but they dont do it, a fine sandpaper might, would that scratch the tiles ?, i don't think so as ceramic

Yes every last micro bit must be removed, a Stanley blade is effective, last bath seal I did I spent about 6 hours cleaning the old silicone off and about 10 minutes applying the new!

Masking tape is far too thick causing a ridge, I use foil tape like this.
