Hi all,

I have increasingly noticed my hallway light coming away from the ceiling.

When I put it up the ceiling was crumbly around the aperture from which the electricity wires come out of.

How can I re-in force the area to ensure I get a good fix.

The bracket holding the top has not been secured to timber so will need refixing.

Where the light is situated and the wires protrude there was no timber to fix too and therefore through time since we have moved in which is now 2 years it has slowly started to drop. The initial fix was just into plaster (or perhaps lathe / plaster) but certainly not into timber.

I obviously cannot move the wires and so I need to know how to properly secure it in place?

Any good ideas?

As John says can you get under the floor above. Get someone to hold a piece of timber up there while you fix the bracket through the ceiling into the timber

Just avoid sticking longer / thicker screws into the holes unless you are absolutely sure you cant pierce the cable.....
You may find the existing hole is very near to a joist so one screw may do - its largely the luck of the draw and has driven most of us nuts in the past!
John :)

Ceiling roses are usually screwed too timber joist, so you may have to move it very slightly, but should be there.
