whats this paper

hi all,
this is my first post, first i would like to say hello and a big thank you for any help.
my problem, we have moved in to a new home and want to put up new paper, but i dont know how to strip the old paper.
it has a soft raised pattern on it. if you try to peel it you are left with a sponge like skin on the wall. is this that fressco stuf?
any ideas on what to do?

Sounds like blown vinyl you seem to be stripping the top coating and leaving the "blown" bit. You need to lift a corner, you should find the whole textured layer can be pealed off leaving a thin backing paper that can be soaked for removal.

thanks for the reply mate, that does sound like the paper, looks like a vinly.
i will give it a go next week.
any other ideas out there guys.
