My bricky is building a block wall at the side of my house, leaving a reveal for a door... Replacing and old nackered fence and gate.

Can anyone recommend a suitable door lining and door for use outside?

Thanks.

Are you installing a gate or a door? A door will be a bad idea if it is exposed to the weather on both sides.
Anyhow, all the usual merchants and some of the sheds sell external frames. The problem with timber frames is that they wick water up from the bottom and rot. Folks have forgotten how to look after a wooden frame. They require yearly maintenance with a dollop of love and a smidgen of care.

I had planned to install a door not for extra security but I guess a robust gate would be fine. Why do you advise against a door out of interest?

Just the obvious disadvantage of weather influenced movement and deterioration. The construction of a door is such that it will require a finishing product to make it weathertight, which will require annual maintenance. Being subject to weather on both sides means that it will likely be a pain in the ass.
It could work with a decent fitting gap and a wee bit of TLC.

yeah that's a good point. I had wondered if there's a 'go to' type of outside door that people opt for but looks like I'll be choosing a gate and making it as weatherproof and secure as I can! Thanks for the input

Beware of the wind on a full size door, it can slam in an alarming manner. Best if it open boarded.
