Now obviously, the differences may be greater than the similarities, and the initial starting points was/are vastly different. But consider how Cuba has fared over the last 50 years.
But Cuba is an island about the same size as UK, lying alongside a large trading nation with which trade was suspended.

People attempt to escape from Cuba to USA, not t'other way round.

I'm confident that tourists will still be attracted to London, Stratford, etc. following any Brexit, if it happens.
If there is a Brexit, perhaps they'll come to UK, as they go to see Egypt, Rome, Greece etc, for the way things used to be! A great civilisation reduced to ruin. ;)
