Converting two three-way switches to a single dimmer

I recently replaced my kitchen lights to dimmable LEDs. Right now there are two 1 gang 3-way switches, so I can control the same lights from two switches. I wanted to replace one of the switches with a dimmer, so I bought a dimmer switch and turns out it's only two-way.

How can I wire this dimmer? I don't mind getting rid of one of the switches.

Those switches are 2 way not 3 way. That dimmer looks like it is one way, you can get 2 way dimmers.

EDIT, just noticed you are in the US where they call 2 way 3 way. Don't know why as the switch can only go 2 ways? Anyway you can dimmers to suit.

If you're happy to bin one of the switches (so you can only control the lights from the dimmer) then you can but you'll need;

• A reasonable amount of electrical knowledge
• A multimeter that you know how to use

2 way switches (apparently called 3 way in the US, who knew) work by providing 2 conducting paths between each switch (not sure what intermediate switches are called over there, by using them you can have an infinite number of switches controlling one light fitting). Usually (BUT NOT ALWAYS), the LIVE starts at the COMMON terminal on 1 switch, then L1 and L2 are connected to L1 and L2 on the 2nd switch (going to ignore intermediates here) and COMMON on the 2nd switch goes to the light fitting.

For your dimmer to work, you need to determine where the LIVE is (the dimmer requires live where it says L IN). For which you'll need the listed prerequisites.......
