Underfloor Heating - conflicting advice from installers!

Thanks for the thoughts. Realise heat loss will be an issue, hopefully reduced with ultra high spec glass roof etc. It will be a side return so only roof and one end glazed. Installers have suggested UFH may be insufficient on own, hence also considering adding pipework to allow rad...

Single zone underfloor heating & open vented system?

Hi, We've got a Y-plan open vented system and are looking to add a single zone UFH in a new conservatory. We've had an installer round who wants to convert the system to an S-plan and move the pump from the upstairs airing cupboard (by the 3 port valve) to the boiler cupboard downstairs -...

    Unused cores in alarm cable...

Thanks! good advice on the mains routing - won't be anywhere near. But..checked the system spec and its 24v AC ~ would that make any difference to induced voltage risk?? Clipping the cores back would be much the easiest as there is not much space in the photocell units for choc blocks...

    Unused cores in alarm cable...

Morning all, I've researched the importance of properly terminating \ earthing any unused cores in multicore 230v (in case other end becomes live, induced voltages etc) But... Is it is necessary when using multi-core alarm cable for low voltage (24v)? I need to connect up a couple of...

    smokey bedroom???

Hi, nope, flues are separate right to the very top. Made a point of mortar sealing the withes well to pot beds before flaunchng to ensure that each flue is completely sealed from the next. Also, as I had the top four oversailing courses of brickwork off, I rebuilt and repointed as far in...

Burning...What's going on here then? (with Pix!)

Thanks good advice...I was hoping I hadn't got it too wrong! Some folk on here can be a bit harsh with us DIYers!! Will take the opportunity of putting a new FCU on to tidy up the wiring, hopefully doubling the single ends back will help make sure there are no loose connections. Out of...

Burning...What's going on here then? (with Pix!)

Just a common or garden condensor tumble dryer on a normal 13A fuse, not sure what rating As to the fitter...that was me (DIYnot...the clue in the formal title  ) What could / should I do to strip the wires back and have them look more professional? (always trying to...

Burning...What's going on here then? (with Pix!)

Af'noon all! Noticed a curious yellow liquid coming from fuse holder on a switched FCU in my utility room... The FCU is spured from the plug next to it and serves a single unswitched socket below the worktop powering a tumble dryer. Taking the FCU off and apart it there is evidence...

    Antique Outside Light Fitting

Hi all again, As part of my house restoration project I'm thinking about reinstating an antique 'antwerp' style outside lantern which was previously installed. I know I can get modern replacements etc, but the whole project has been about conservation of historical and original bits of...
