    Security screws problem

Thanks for all of the advice. I now have a bahco and an irazola screwdriver to fit these screws. I knew it was worth keeping those odd old drivers. Finally found a use for the Rotozip, what a handy tool that proved to be

    Security screws problem

I thought of that but the tip isn't wide enough to file out. Also I wouldn't like to open dozens of them with a key! To BAS, he took it surprisingly well. I told him I would buy him a new kit and he was happy enough. He wasn't a spark and didn't know the bit fitted the security screws...

    Security screws problem

That screwdriver looks perfect RF, but I can't find any for sale in this country, only the States. As for making a driver, I'm working away from home with a test kit and basic hand tools, so no go there. I borrowed a bit from a fella on site which had a 10 printed on it, same as the ones in the...

    Security screws problem

We have hundreds of these things to open over the next few weeks and they all have to go back properly so I was looking for the right tool for the job, preferably four of them. I have trawled the web again but nothing. I can find manufacturers for the screws but no driver. I'll try phoning some...

    Security screws problem

Iam struggling to find a screwdriver/bit to fit some security screws on electrical accessories. I have encountered these before in schools, homes, etc and have opened them using my standard security bits set but none of them fit these ones. They are the type with two holes on either side of the...

    Clever extract fan

That's what I reckon. TTC they are 3 phase Dbs with a combination of mcbs and rcbos. The installation is all in surface trunking.

    Clever extract fan

Designed for student accommodation. Need I say more? Very easily installed, Not too complicated at all. Just send the phase conductors of the circuits concerned through the ct on the relay.

    Clever extract fan

Got it in one Ricicle! That wasn't much of a quiz was it? Very good idea and so simple. Threw me for a while though.

    Clever extract fan

I found something today while doing a PIR that I have not encountered before. The kitchen extract fan would come on only when the hob/oven, toaster were switched on or the cooker hood extract was on the third setting which is full speed. Any ideas?

    Time saving tester

Thanks for the replies. I've always used photo copied sheets on site then write up the originals later to save them getting dirty and for mistakes. I thought there might be a meter that would save the results on an internal memory that would be able to be uploaded later. Seems things aren't as...

    Time saving tester

Can anybody recommend a multifunction tester with a decent facility for uploading results to a computer? Tried the Megger MFT1553, which is a good meter, but found the blue tooth laborious. I want something that will save me time with paperwork on a large PIR job.

    Bathroom lighting... recessed spotlights

To the OP. I have 4 20w chrome downlights with a pull cord dimmer in my bathroom and they look and work just fine. They are 12v with individual psus ( transformers ), I fitted them 5 years ago and I haven't even had to change a lamp. I can dim the lights for those dark mornings when I've just...

The Burning Question - Are RCDs safe?

It still surprises me how few electricians actually use the modulo type drivers. Is it really that much hassle to carry an extra two screwdivers that cost about a tenner? Practically every terminal in dbs, contactors, relays and rotary isolators have them in either of the two sizes. It's not...

240v Pillar drill keeps tripping out

Any thin oil would do, generally the hydraulic oil for the machines was ok. I've even heard of vegetable oil being used.

How to wire a fluorescent (?) bulb

That looks like a neon lamp to me. High voltage control gear is required to light this lamp. Specialist knowledge is required with neon signage. Doh

    Square D QOE MCBs

Those things were the worst Square D breakers, even the old black ones were better than them. The rcbos were even worse, practically every one I test now fails. Mind you they're a fair age now. I keep a good stock of the more modern breakers as I have come across quite a few that have failed in...

    Another one to chortle at.....

Must have been a real stiff neck job, it's bad enough wiring a few lights in a row. Unless they tipped the whole unit on its side until he was done. :D
