    Separate programmers for Y-plan

Thanks hertsboilers, mogget and Terrywookfit.. that's three separate ideas to consider. I'll read into the Nest some more. Cheers.

    Separate programmers for Y-plan

Thanks, that does look like the right kind of thing. However to mount it somewhere useful (e.g. where the current thermostat is) would mean some rewiring as there's only 3 core cable. This would suit a CH programmer (live, neutral, demand) but would not have enough pairs for HW on and off...

    Separate programmers for Y-plan

Thanks. I was trying to avoid these ones but will take a look. Any advice on using two normal programmers also gratefully received.

    Separate programmers for Y-plan

I have a typical(*) Y-plan heating system with an old mechanical Danfoss 4033 programmer. I aim to replace this with a digital programmer but I want to find one that allows the desired CH temperature to be programmed into the on/off periods. I had this in a previous property with a combi...

    Replacing diaphragm in diverter

Sorry for the late reply but thanks! You were right, the diaphragms looked almost as good as the new ones I bought :) I cleaned the pins and lubricated them and both now move freely. The boiler works a charm after replacing the CH thermostat. It even switches from DHW to CH seamlessly :D...

Broken 6 week old Mira shower?

If anybody has any ideas I'd be really grateful. I plan on having a look tomorrow before calling them in!

Broken 6 week old Mira shower?

I bought and fitted a Mira "Play" shower 6 weeks ago. It worked absolutely fine for this time but now does not heat water at all on any setting. Water still flows through the shower and turning the temperature gauge up high does appear to decrease the water pressure as it should be getting...

    Earthing Kaldewei bath & taps

Just bond them once? Or do I have to do it both sides of isolators? I'm assuming you don't need to, but if I'm going to do it then I might as well do it properly :)

    Earthing Kaldewei bath & taps

The lighting circuit is on the unprotected, non RCD side of the consumer unit. So obviously I need to properly bond it all together, can anybody advise specifically about the bath and whether I need to bond all taps/both sides of isolators or just across the incoming pipes.

    Earthing Kaldewei bath & taps

I've just fitted a Kaldewei bath and am wondering where to earth it. There is a tiny lug underneath or two bigger "wings" at the head end which have plastic removable covers. Both seem to be painted slightly, so I'm not sure which to use. Also, do I need to earth all 4 taps in the room? Or is...

    Replacing diaphragm in diverter

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it all a good clean, replace the diaphragms and see if that helps. Let's hope it's not too cold at the weekend :D

    Replacing diaphragm in diverter

Thanks for such a quick reply. Actually the DHW pin moves correctly and appears to initiate demand. However the CH pin does not always move in, meaning both are out at the same time. I assumed this was wrong and could be the diaphragm, hence buying the parts!

    Replacing diaphragm in diverter

My apologies, should have shared the mind-reading :) It's an Alpha 240E.

    Replacing diaphragm in diverter

Excellent, thanks! Apart from the diverter, heat exchanger and CH return/cold inlet filters, is there anything else I can easily clean without completely dismantling the boiler? The pump sometimes makes a bit of noise but I don't know how easy it is to clean, can anybody advise whether it is...

    Replacing diaphragm in diverter

I have bought a pair of new diaphragms for my boiler. I'm hoping it will cure the problem of both CH and DHW pins being open at the same time, the CH pin seems to be "sticky" and not always notice when DHW flow is requested. I have the two new diaphragms, is this all I need to replace? Some...

    Alpha 280E boiler problems

OK, I can do that, thanks. However shouldn't the CH side of the diverter close when the hot water side opens? The pin definitely stays up (just tested it). I guess this could also cause the hot/cold problem with the water? I'll have a look through the service manual tomorrow and see if I...

    Alpha 280E boiler problems

I have an Alpha 280E boiler. For the last year (since I moved in) it has been a little temperamental, the DHW would cycle hot-cold every 10 seconds every so often. The heating was always fine. Over the last week it has got much worse. The boiler fires and the pump works. Radiators only...

    Adding another light in loft

I have a light in the loft using a simple batten holder. It has live and neutral and an unused earth (it's a plastic fitting). The live is switched and connected using 1.5mm cable from the upstairs lighting circuit. I want to add another light at the other end of the loft. I bought another...
