Replace Pull cord in Bathroom with a switch - what are the options

I have a bathroom with a pull cord to switch the light on. I am wondering what solutions there are to change this to a switch that can be mounted outside that (a) does not need channelling into the wall and ceiling and (b) not require a remote item going in the light rose. This is because there...

    Painting bathroom and kitchen ceiling

Thanks, and agreed in only using trade paint, saves time in the long run and does seem more durable. Ventilation isn't great in the bathroom and mediocre in the kitchen, hence the preference for a non Matt paint, but will be using trade Matt in the other rooms.

    Painting bathroom and kitchen ceiling

Hi there I need to paint a newly plastered (on fresh plasterboard) kitchen ceiling and two bathroom ceilings. The bathroom ceilings are artex unfortunately, but I'm just painting over them for now. I would appreciate views on what paint to use (I will mist the kitchen before painting over with...

Question on noise insulation of different walls

Thanks for the replies. Think this has confirmed what I was thinking. Will block and board the hall wall. Will go for a double stud frame with some dense acoustic rockwool. What do you do too isolate the stud frames, is it a case of both attached to side walls and ceiling but not too each...

Question on noise insulation of different walls

Hi all, I'm having a bit of a reconfiguration and am wondering on noise insulation on the walls around a downstairs shower room/toilet that is in the process of being built. Its only approx 1mx3m. The room borders four different other rooms, but it is the walls adjacent to (1) the hall and (2)...

    Controls recommendation

Yeah I know, pay for what you get. Normally I would have over-ruled installers' recommendation but I only wanted some controls as a stop-gap until change system over to include an unvented cylinder. Ended up with stop-gap heating! Doh!

    Controls recommendation

Hi all Recently had a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 832 Combi fitted. I also had a Salus ST620 fitted as installer said he had used few of these recently and they worked well - but typical luck the first one I got was broken out of the box. Second one worked like a dream....for two months that is ...

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

That's what I had concluded, parts should be ordered today and hopefully hot water and heating by Saturday night! Thank you all again - although I'll no doubt be back soon to ask what are the best parts to use when adding a cylinder!

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Yep, leaning that way - especially with the risk of wasting lots of money redoing a gas pipe. Just trying to figure out what controls are needed for adding the cylinder later (and a Wet UFH system). Given the urgency may just go with a Salus one for now and deal with the question later!

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Just when I had thought I had finished my questions, one more popped into my head about controls. Assuming I go with the Valliant option, combi for now and switch to system later (running the combi DHW to a single tap somewhere (actually thinking of running it to the downstairs shower which...

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Ok thanks to everyone on this thread, this has been really really helpful and learnt something new. Big thumbs up to all who have posted and helped. I'm now down to a choice between (1) a Vaillant 835 (picking Vaillant as the installer can do it Saturday and give me 10Y warranty) and pray the...

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Apologies for a daft question coming up, but what does mean 'run at full rate' - does that mean it needs to be a fairly unrestricted tap or something - or something that can deliver a flow rate comparable to the 35 degree delta DHW spec etc?

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Cheers for the info. Installers have pretty high confidence of a <35kw not needing any pipwork adjustment.

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Can a Vaillant 832 or 835 be converted to a system boiler setup at a later stage if I ran the hot water to a single tap? (Asking as the installer which can get in first can give a 10Y guarantee on these)?

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Muggles - thanks for the suggestion, that's one that I hadn't thought of, although I did a rough heatloss calculator and at -5deg it did get up to around 17 (Victorian House with single glazed sash windows etc), plus we might want to do an extend which could add to that, so maybe it would be...

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Thanks - and that is exactly the problem, without a working boiler it is difficult to confirm. The installers have said that they think it is at the limit in terms of pipe run, but 15%-20% of it can be cut out. Thanks for the advice on storage combis - the Glowworm does look interesting (one...

Which boiler advice (inc combi storage question)

Hi all, I can imagine the groans at the title of this thread, but was hoping to see if anyone here has any other options which I or the plumbers that have been round to take a look may have not thought about. Essentially my curent combi (an Ideal evo c22/35 with DHW input of 36.0kw) has conked...

    intergas boilers

Thank you very much for the input. And no - whilst there are certain things in world where I am not concerned with the 'quality' of the tradesmen, or indeed the actual materials (e.g. because I am likely going to finish it off myself or I can double check it myself or I know I can fix it...
