    "White" undercoat with "Brilliant White"

I'll be painting emulsion over the undercoat anyway - which caused no problems previously. Difference is this time Brilliant White over White rather than exact same shades.

    "White" undercoat with "Brilliant White"

Hi, Is there going to be problem if I paint Dulex Trade "Brilliant White" Matt Vinyl on top of a layer of Dulex Trade "White" undercoat? I tried getting the "Brilliant White" undercoat but there was none in stock.. so ended up with "White", I was told it would not be a problem, but thought...

What type of screws to pin down old floorboards

Cheers guys The only wood screws I've seen all have the same diameter from top of shank down to where thread becomes narrow point. The few woodscrews I currently have are 57mm length with the threadless shank being 20mm - my floorboards are 18mm deep. From what has been said that sounds like...

What type of screws to pin down old floorboards

Hi, What kind of screws do I need to to correctly screw down old victorian floorboards to joists? (assuming screws are correct). I've screwed in a few floorboards already using screws I used for plasterboards but stopped to seek clear advice. cheers

ICI Matchmaker for mist coat on plastered walls

Hi, I have a 5 ltr can of ICI Matchmaker Vinyl Emulsion (Brilliant White) and hope to use it as a mist coat on plastered walls (done 6 or 7 weeks ago). From reading a few forums sounds like there is a lot of confusion of what is right way to go about task. I am thinking it should be thinned...

    Carpet grippers issue

It's in a bedroom with wooden floorboards. So not sure if that works with the glue option? In regard the grippers option, 11mm gripper means combined underlay MAX is 11mm - therefore where can I get grippers which are greater depth, i.e.. 13mm or 14mm? cheers

    Carpet grippers issue

Hi, From what I understand carpet grippers have a standard depth of 11mm. I had intended putting 2 layers of underlay with a combined thickness of 13mm (long story don't ask..). I've been told by a carpet fitter that the maximum combined thickness of underlay has to be 11mm otherwise...

    Getting right floorboards to replace

HI, I want to replace about 4 floorboards. I have measured them and they seem to all vary in size, which was a surprise - by as much as 3mm in width and 2mm in depth. The average seems to be 167mm wide and 17mm deep. Not sure the wood type, but it seems the typical floorboards I see in any...

    Best underlay for noise reduction?

Sorry it should have read £44.99 for 15 sq m - which is competitive with ebay. The Tuplex comes in at £2.20 per sq m. I am hoping to rent the room out, and with my bedroom being directly below, I want to mitigate against someone who is as heavy footed as an elephant.

    Best underlay for noise reduction?

Just done a bit more research by ringing www.floor-site.com. They told me the the best underlay for noise impact & reduction would be "Tredaire 7th Heaven Dreamwalk 11mm underlay" at £44.99 square m. They also said that between the floorboards and Tredaire underlay I should lay Tuplex...

    Best underlay for noise reduction?

Hi, I need some guidance on what type of underlay to get upstairs. The main aim would be to reduce noise impact and secondly airborne sound (heat insulation and comfort would just be a bonus although I guess they go hand in hand with my 2 main requirements). Currently there sits a worn out...

    Painting my stained ceiling

thanks. Just to confirm, I can apply the thinned undercoat just over the stains - rather than covering the entire ceiling?

    Painting my stained ceiling

Cheers. But how much should I thin the undercoat - perhaps 1 part water to 1 part undercoat?

    Painting my stained ceiling

Hi, My ceiling has quite a few small stains - splashed from plastering and rendering work done on my walls about a month back. The ceiling is smooth after some sanding. I did actually start painting round the edges with emulsion but stains were showing through so I stopped. What is the...
