Thanks for the replies. The site doesn't slope that steeply. The rock face in the solum is steep because it sits behind what the amercicans would call a walk out basement. It's not going to be an area that is used at all. I am hoping that there shouldn't be much water trying to come out...

Thanks very much for all the comments. I spoke to the Klober technical helpline who said there was no need but I must confess that I agree with hammerswinger - it can't hurt can it. Wind driven rain is a big issue up here so it's a belt and braces approach on everything.

Can anybody answer a question for me on eaves support trays? I am about to use the Klober eaves support tray on my new garage. The installation instructions say that they should be overlapped by 100mm. Should the join be sealed with some sort of mastic? If so, what do you recommend...

They don't seem to produce a lot of thick ones! The slates that I am using are from SIG and, of their whole range, only one lot are thick. They seem to be being used on all the new slate rooves in Shetland! The plan is that the slates aren't going to move!

Hi Alastair, The slates are Spanish 400 x 250 and are holed about 110 mm down the slate about 30mm in on both sides. Because it is very windy where we are building, I am going to nail them (using the holes provided) and use slate hooks. AA

Thanks, Simon. I have decided to go with the rest bend on top of the foundations. There is no vehicular traffic where the drain will emerge so I can fairly easily protect it, even though it will be shallow. Thanks again. Andrew
