    Mortar identification advice

Hi, I have a victorian property with lime mortar. At some point in the 80's it had an extension added ( not in possession then). The extension mortar has a weird colour and composition and has clearly failed. It's a Sharp sand mix that is grey and possibly lime not sure. It looks awful and...

    Tiger loop kit fittings

Hello, I think I'm getting air into my system so plumber suggested tiger loop kit. I bought one but don't think I have all the fittings in kit to make it work. I have some straight through 10mm brass connectors but they aren't going to work. I have x2 copper pipes going from loop into pump. The...

Worcester greenstar utility 18/25 oil intermittent spark

Yes. Covering the cell with my hand. Sometimes I will remove the cell, cover the end with my hand, see that the boiler is sparking then place the cell back in and it will fire. It's just intermittent.

Worcester greenstar utility 18/25 oil intermittent spark

Yeah I swapped that recently. When I check for a spark by removing photocell and can't see one I can still hear the solenoid clicking?

Worcester greenstar utility 18/25 oil intermittent spark

Hi, The oil boiler - Worcester greenstar utility 18/25 is being temperamental when firing. I think I have narrowed it down to spark not always being present. When it fails to start often hitting the reset will get the boiler going but if not and I remove the photocell then I can't see a...

Garden path step or no step?

I don't know if this picture helps any, the path basically descends from where the picture was taken. It's the bit where the gully is that I can't picture what to do, maybe just angle the slabs? The outbuilding will be in the damp zone unavoidable because of air bricks and window heights etc.

Garden path step or no step?

Hi, I am putting in a garden path that will run alongside a recently built brick outbuilding and kitchen. The issue is that there is a height difference between the two building that mean I either build up and raise the ground where the outbuilding goes or I put a step in. I am leaning to the...

Brick shed , base depth, drainage questions

Hi , I am removing an old shed and trying to tidy the garden up. Planning on putting new shed up and putting a roof plate just below the window on where the current shed is and coloured red. The plan is lean to roof coming straight from existing building. The height is 2.5m up to the roof...

Immersion heater tripping water in plastic thermostat cap

No. Not frequently below room temperature. I just thought the water might have dripped down but watched it for 30 min with immersion on and the water tap on and it was dry.It had a good teaspoonful of water I poured out the cap on first inspection. It is old and yeah. I'll get the immersion swapped.

Immersion heater tripping water in plastic thermostat cap

Hi Immersion is tripping and I found water , looked like condensation in cap. I can't see any obvious leaking but there is oxidisation. The top connection looks a bit ropey! Is more than likely trickling down from that top connection? Thanks

    Noisy bearings on Oil Burner

Great info John. So I need to disconnect the fan using the allen key access hole and it will be in that area? I haven't taken that bit apart yet. Wife and kids are in now so It will have to be a stealth swap out when time is right. I bought two bearings though so that's a good start.
