hello yes that is fine to undercoat then use satin ontop of the undercoat. water based satin is never good it always needs 2 to 3 coats to get a good finish thats why i went back to oil based satin. you can use oil or water based undercoat that is upto you. carl

do you just want to paint the walls after or will you be puting paper back up? if you will be painting you need to make sure you have washed all the paste off the wall becuase if you have not it will make the paint crack when it is dry.

no the brush marks should not be like that hes put it on the thick. The job dont look the best but its if the painter will give you some money back which i dont think he will sorry to say but hope you do get some back. is the hand rail new or has be striped it back to wood?
