When rendering you should always use washed plastering sand with a good waterproofer added. Building sand is for brick or block laying and not render. If the the scratch had no waterproofer in it then the top coat will pull in to fast and that is why you end up with it cracking while it cures

If he done both walls and ceiling he SHOULD have scrimed the joints in both. As i see it he did not scrim the joints therefore that is why you have the cracks in the plaster work. If this is the case call him back to put it right. :( S/S

If i was you i would use the rolling set method. Divide the ceiling into 3 bays A B C put chalk marks on the walls to indicate the 3 bays. Mix up small batches of plaster so you are working with fresh plaster. Mix up and lay A ... Mix up and lay B....Flatten A ....Mix up and lay C...Flatten B...

I would say between £7 to £9 per meter labour and materials. If it is a day rate you would be looking at £150 to £180 for a good spread plus materials.

You could try a mix of silver sand cement and pva mix it up like sandtex paint and paint it on the wall. Leave it for 24 hours and then try to cover it with artex. I hope this is of some help to you. :lol: S/S

Hello R/C i was working over in france doing a 4 bedroom farm house. Most of the inside was a reskim over that nice french white plaster a nightmare to skim if you dont kill the suction. It was a nice change to see how it is on the other side of the water.

This should come under the heading HOW NOT TO LEARN TO PLASTER.The trowel tells it own story. He must have left the multi finish out in the sun to long for it to bleach the colour out of it. :lol:

You need to replaster with washed plastering sand 4-1 and skim same with thistle board finish. On the upper floor bonding coat will do and board finish or multi. Make sure you damp down the walls before you float them. S/S :)

No contest really you can not inprove the natural stone. The concrete type will fade after a while where the real thing will only get better with time. As for prices the indian stone will work out a bit more expensive but will out last the man made stuff .Hope this helps. :) S/S

I always use pva when pointing INDIAN stone and smooth sided paving as the pointing sticks to it a lot better when pva is added you dont get any hair line cracks along side the slab/pointing. With the plasticiser it does not seem to take to the slab in the same way as the pva .I suppose it is...

No i never use plasticiser in pointing mix only in rendering. I have found that febond pva is the best in pointing mix. Never any come backs with it so i stick with what i know will work. :) S/S

No. You will have to remove the paper because if you skim over paper it will lift and the plaster will fall off. Then you will have to start all over again. Do it once and do it right is the best way. :) S/S

You can pva the wall and skim over it make sure you scrim all the joints.Leave to dry for 10 days before you paint it. :) S/S

I have found the best mix for pointing any slabs is 2 sharp sand 2 building sand and 1 cement with 2 capfulls of pva neat i use febond. Mix up sand and cement dry and when ready to put water in add the pva. Make sure you do not put too much water in or you will stain the slabs. Then you can...

I would put a coat of sand and cement on the wall to level it up. Mix it up 5 plastering sand 1 cement with some plasticiser. Then when it has gone off say 24 hours you can dot and dab over it no need for battens or drilling. Hope this is of help to you. :) S/S
