    Leaking from chimney stack

Thanks for the reply vinn. I don;t think it's the flashing personally, because the water is dirty and sooty so it must have come down the chimney rather than through a gap. Would damaged pointing allow water to flow inside the chimney? It's hard to tell what the pointing is like from ground...

    Leaking from chimney stack

Hi, apologies in advance for the vague information given! We have a 1920s semi, where the chimney breast has been removed and supported on gallows brackets in the loft. We have occasional stains on the upstairs ceilings, but after heavy rain last night (Storm Angus!), I've noticed a new massive...

Potterton system boiler PRV & EV failure

Googled it, mine is potable. I can't see any reason to not repressurise white ones though?

Potterton system boiler PRV & EV failure

Thanks Tony. I have an engineer coming tomorrow morning to look at it. Out of interest, what is the difference between orange and white EXVs? Mine is white, but has a schraeder valve

Potterton system boiler PRV & EV failure

I'll take a photo tonight if it helps. Just to be clear, I don't think there's a problem with the hot water cylinder (the megaflo clone)... the EV has no pressure (and won't take any air if I pump it up), and the PRV on the boiler is constantly releasing (even if the pressure is <1 bar). I...

Potterton system boiler PRV & EV failure

Argh, there's always a reg to adhere to. Cheers, I'll make some calls in the morning - does it sound like an hour's labour + parts? (assuming my diagnosis is correct, of course)

Potterton system boiler PRV & EV failure

Hi all, I have a Potterton Gold system boiler & unvented cylinder. The pressure has been dropping regularly over the last few months and I've been topping it up weekly via the loop, but today the PRV gave up completely and will not hold any pressure at all and water flows through the tundish...

    Beko Dishwasher

DE 2431 FW had the same problem (put a wash on overnight, pump was still running in the morning and couldn't reset). Tipped machine back 45 degress.... water came out of the back, and then it worked. Cheers!

    Condensation on a skylight

Cheers - by ingos do you mean the wall inside of the kerb? I tried the fan/paper test - it doesn't exactly feel superglued on, but I can't pull the paper away directly, I have to slide it down. It's probably not the best fan ever, but seems adequate. It's one of these btw...

    Condensation on a skylight

Cheers for the reply pinenot :) We have an extractor in the kitchen, and our tumble dryer is in the garage. I think the only place which could easily contribute to the moisture is the bathroom which is just along the hallway (the door is probably 6' away from the skylight), but we do have an...

    Condensation on a skylight

Hi - we have a skylight on our landing and when we moved in 2 years ago, we had the glass repaired - it was single glazed georgian wire, and was replaced with toughened laminated glass of the same thickness (two pieces of glass sandwiching a plastic barrier) - I'm not sure if the old skylight...

    Skylight condensation problem

Cheers for the advice mate. I'm not sure how easy it will be to get double glazing in there though... the frame only really suits 6mm glass (or 8mm at a push maybe) and the glass would need to be laminated and toughened (it's dead flat so will potentially have snow sitting on it in the winter)...

    Skylight condensation problem

Hi, we moved into our new house this year in the summer and one of the first jobs I did was to reglaze a broken skylight. The skylight is a fairly conventional wooden box with a metal frame on top. It doesn't open or have any vents. It originally had one pane of georgian wire glass (and...

    Walk in wardrobe

Actually, our place had a back boiler when we moved in. The chimney had been removed upstairs and instead the flue pipe ran in a small piece of boxing in (with what looks like concrete/asbestos sheets which were then plastered over). There were built in wardrobes built around this too. We've...

Yale HSA 3600 entry time issue

Hi, installed my HSA6400 at the weekend and had the same problem. I had to change my door sensor from "Burglar" to the Delay setting (was it called Delay, or "Entry"?). Is i t possible you are passing a door sensor or PIR set to Burglar?

    Low Energy Garden Floodlighting.

I've only had it on for about a month, and in the sunny South East we haven't had many really cold days so far  The light "warms up" to full brightness within about 5-10 seconds or so. I replaced the light within my freezer with a CFL a few years ago as it was all I had to hand when the...
