After thermocouple change pilot light won't stay lit

You must be competent to work with gas. If ignited when it shouldn't be is very dangerous.

    Control wiring

Who me Kev? I haven't got one remember, just gravity flow on that wood burner. Keep it simple & no maintenance. In fact there was a power cut last night but my wood-burner and gravity-fed rads just kept on going. :)

    plaster advice???

If you've got a Wickes near you, get a 10kg bag of one coat patching plaster. Instructions are on bag but it's easy to use and can fill up to 50mm depth in one coat. It's a powder so you have to mix it but a bucket is ok for the amount you need. Places like B&Q may stock something similar but...

    washing machine cold feed ???

Also the inlet valves usually need a min 4psi to lift the diaphragm so that's about 8' head above the valves.

    Cost of Central Heating

My place was new build so I've got clay flue liners. I've got no experience of lining old chimneys George. Many years ago I did have a wood burner in an old house and just used the existing unlined chimney, but that's not acceptable practice now.

    Cost of Central Heating

A lot of work and expense for one rad though? Not worth it unless you were going to heat water as well in my opinion. Running pipes in flue would not comply with building regs regards heat loss and how could you fix them? You will use a twin-wall liner for solid fuel and I don't know what the...

    LPG Costs

I still am a good guy oilman, and doing my bit to protect the environment. What I said wasn't tosh it was good stuff. Even allowing for emissions of CO2 in planting, harvesting, processing and transporting the fuel, replacing fossil fuel with woodfuel will typically reduce net CO2 emissions by...

    Cost of Central Heating

Not pipes up chimney George, and you want an open system with a header tank. Are you proposing to heat your HW cylinder with the back boiler as well as rads?

    Battery Diagnostic LED

Agree sluggish starting can indicate glow plug problem, but I said slow cranking which is low battery voltage, assuming starter and wiring is ok. As your battery was duff then the cranking speed would have been slow. If you are only reading 12volts then battery is discharged. If you put...

    Battery Diagnostic LED

I've never heard of one of those LEDs on battery. New glow plugs wasn't a good decision though, slow cranking wouldn't be that. A multi-meter is useful then you can check battery voltage and alternator charging, available for less than a tenner.

No pump George, just gravity circulation. Still works with a power cut so I keep warm & can cook my dinner on stove. Overhead power lines so I get a few of those.
