Did not find anything on Screwfix.

    Grout sealer?

I know this topic has been discussed - but my situation is slightly different. Bought a new build basement garage, the ground beneath the concrete floor was still somewhat humid so there was some visible efflorescence in places. Anyway, I decided to have the garage tiled to create a...

Telephone directly connected to incoming cable

While not sure what a DP is (Dist. Panel?) no, no cables were severed, that's for sure.

Telephone directly connected to incoming cable

There is a working line and it seems very straightforward at the JB so I think your first theory is probably fact. But thanks again for mentioning all the possibilities!

Telephone directly connected to incoming cable

That's a fantastic reply, thanks. All I needed to know and more. I found it odd that although the disconnection has been for around a month, that the lines seem (now confirmed) to be dead, and you have explained why this could be. It is certainly possible that the line was shorted or...

Telephone directly connected to incoming cable

Seem to have hit a brick wall! For some reason the line appears to be dead. Ish. All the connections seem fine, double, triple checked them, even directly wired up incoming to phone cable so that there are no doubts about the connection. Managed to find the original master socket too...

Telephone directly connected to incoming cable

Lovely, you have just converted me from today's zero to tomorrow's hero in about one and a half hours! Thanks again all!

Telephone directly connected to incoming cable

Thanks for that, TBH long term reliability is not a concern and due to the fact that I need this asap I actually just bought one (of the ebay cheapies) reckoned if you said "no way" it's only a couple of quid. Reading up in the meantime I gather that the two wires will connect to T2 and T5 on...

Telephone directly connected to incoming cable

Hi, thanks, some more info below (and questions) There are two wires coming (well used to) from the JB the only thing I know is that they are the phone line I am interested in. Thanks for the info re the master socket, I thought it was not chucked out but we can not find it anywhere...

Telephone directly connected to incoming cable

Doing some work on an office that has necessitated removing all wiring, but a temporary phone setup is required. Know nothing about phones, but here goes: Need to run a pair from the BT junction (?) box immediately inside the building, (the box with lots of slots in it and all the...

    Opening manhole/stopcock pit cover (outside)

Is it the same as the one I need to open? Yes, 100%. Here in the West End they seem to all be like that, either saying "Meter" or just "Thames Water" I presume where there is no meter, just rates, as with "mine".

    Opening manhole/stopcock pit cover (outside)

That's a stock photo, not "mine" although the cover is identical. "Mine" only sees a selection of beer lorries, delivery trucks, and every size and weight of HGV driving over it from around 6 a.m. till the late p.m. ... Have tried a crowbar there but it's a bit thick so does not...

    Opening manhole/stopcock pit cover (outside)

Thanks again, will just have to keep up the assault... in the middle of a moderately busy road, makes things rather interesting!

    Opening manhole/stopcock pit cover (outside)

Holy moly, "doing just that" is more difficult than I thought. Any tips? Tried banging with a hammer. WD40 round the edge. Crowbar. Banging upwards with crowbar hook in key holes. Etc. I ordered a set of keys, thinking of fitting one and using something long to lever upwards through...

Many thanks Ian! I will do just that.

    Opening manhole/stopcock pit cover (outside)

In connection with the requirement to replace some supply side plumbing, it will be necessary to shut off main stopcock (outside). Thames Water indicate that it is the property owners responsibility to open/close the stopcock. Stupid question perhaps but does the sort of cover as in the...

Upgrading mains feed from 15 to 22, how/who?

I have realised that practically half this connector is concreted in, meaning that replacing this will be a pig. However these universal fittings are advertised as being suitable for any pipe in the size range 15-22 i.e. one fitting does it all. Does anyone have experience with these...

Upgrading mains feed from 15 to 22, how/who?

That's perfect, many many thanks for your help. Yes I suspect the pipe was replaced because the road shows signs of a trench having been cut from street valve to the pavement. Thanks once again for your help, all.

Upgrading mains feed from 15 to 22, how/who?

Yes, the whole building was like that. Been at it for 3 years, literally ground up resto. Yesterday I discovered why connecting shop signs to new wiring now tripping RCD. The numpty who "wired" the shop signs, apart from consistently switching live and neutral, had a bit of a dilemma when faced...
