Got autodata CD - How do a pinout check?

In case this helps anyone else: the car is fixed - it was a £15 engine coolant sensor. To do a pin out reading on this car you can access the back of the ecu plug and use an ordinary mutilmeter along with the data for the volages etc.

Got autodata CD - How do a pinout check?

Thanks for the replies guys. Been going through the auto data cd (what a great source of info). But now I am confused - can I do my own pinout check or not? Ford Escort, 1.8Si 1998 In a nutshell there is hesitation upon acceleration. It was really bad (dangerously so) but is a lot...

Got autodata CD - How do a pinout check?

Thanks. But, I should have said that I am using a multimeter in conjunction with the data from Autodata. In other words I just need to connect my multimeter to the right pins and read off the voltages. There are 104 pins so I am guessing I need a socket which has 104 flying leads...

Got autodata CD - How do a pinout check?

I want to do a pinout check. But how do I connect to the ecu leads? You know the connector in the footwell that garages plug their computer into to read the ecu? It looks kind of like a scart socket. Well the pinout data on the cd shows what each connector in their should read. So can I...

Auxillary belt run, ford escort zetec 1997, HOW?

Trying to put engine back together. Mate has left me to it. He took Aux belt off and didn't note down the way it ran around the pulleys. Haynes says "make a sketch when you take it off". Is it too much to ask for a photo? Anyone know where I can find a photo or a description of how...

Ford zetec 1.8 1998 Cam cover bolt torques?

You are right. The Haynes manual is often cursed at - and I know how to curse. "Remove this bit..." Damn well didn't need to be removed. Common sense is the best tool. I have found out that the 2 stages are 2nm and then 7nm As you say, finger tighten and then equal torque to about...

Ford zetec 1.8 1998 Cam cover bolt torques?

Thanks. If doing it by seat of my pants, then a figure like that would feel about right - it is only a rubber gasket after all. Strange why Haynes reckon it is a 2 stage process. Cheers, Tim

Ford zetec 1.8 1998 Cam cover bolt torques?

The Haynes manual says torque these up in TWO stages to the specified torque, but gives no torque values? Anyone have an idea. If it wasn't for the fact that they say to do it in two stages, I wouldn't be that bothered and just do it by feel. Cheers

Exhaust gas in cooling water test exist?

Thanks mobi. Oil is changed very frequently (I get discount). The engine looks in great shape (easy to see once it is lying all over the garage floor !) 120k miles and the cams and followers show hardly any wear. Obviously there was some leak (as the test proved positive) but it may...

Exhaust gas in cooling water test exist?

Thanks for that. Was rebuilding today (until the blooming camshafts got mixed up and darkness fell). Nearly £200 of spares; all the bits you've mentioned, new timing belt, aux, belt, idler pulley, head bolts (£55 third tightening stage is abit of a nervous time 105 degree turn after a 45Nm...

    got camshafts mixed up

Ford escort, 1.8 zetec, 1998 A mate kindly mixed up my camshafts. They were on paper on the garage floor in order and he mixed them up. Any way of knowing which is exhaust and which is intake? I have fitted them the way I think they go and hand cranked the engine to watch exhaust and...

Exhaust gas in cooling water test exist?

thanks Spark Maybe I have been lucky then. Block appears ok. Head appears ok. Gasket looks pretty darn good for over 100k miles. The AA man said it could be just a small leak. Do you think this would have been enough to cause such a drastic loss of power? I have lost hardly any water...

Exhaust gas in cooling water test exist?

The car lost power and stalled at 65mph. Got to layby. AA man did a test with a test tube type thing and said: "You have exhaust gases in your cooling water, your head gasket has gone" The car idled fine, would not pull away though. But after cooling for a while it went back to...
