    20mm Cam lock 'oval' hole?

Thanks for the advice everybody! I have a 16mm drill so will do two holes at 3mm centres apart and file out the remainder. I like JobAndKnocks suggestion of trialling on some scrap wood first as would hate to damage my presentation cabinet door beyond repair!

    20mm Cam lock 'oval' hole?

I am preparing to fit a 20mm lowe & fletcher cam lock onto the wooden door of a display cabinet. The instructions state an oval hole 19.1mm high and 16.6mm wide shall be drilled into the wood beforehand. I have no idea how this would be possible using a standard drill bit. Is there a special...

Fused plug onto motion sensor security light

Thanks. I will put in a 3A fuse. Sorry, I meant 220 volts, 200 was the incandescent equivalent.

Fused plug onto motion sensor security light

Hi, Received a 30 watt 200 volt motion sensor security light in the post, which has been shipped with bare cables at the end. It is not going direct to a switch, but to a plug which will be left on all the time. What size of amp fuse should I put inside the plug please? Thanks

Hot water tank unvented Cylinder re-filling

Hi, I purchased a repossessed property which has an unvented hot water tank which has been drained for the past 5 months. The property has electric heating so the tank is for heating water only. To re-fill the tank, is it as simple as turning on the mains supply and once the system is full...

Water pressure to high for new basin tap

Cheers, now I know where to go after 5-years time, once the Homebase guarantee expires and my £27 expensive Chinese rubbish tap fails

Water pressure to high for new basin tap

Thanks Rob. I closed the valve a little bit and that was enough to stop the over spill and there was no additional noise yet.

Water pressure to high for new basin tap

Its a 'Mondella' tap made in China. They were selling for £120 on the Homebase website and came with a 5 year guarantee. I picked one up at a local Homebase 80% off in the closing down sale. https://www.homebase.co.uk/mondella-waterfall-mono-tap_p390344

Water pressure to high for new basin tap

After installing a new 'waterfall'' type tap onto bathroom basin, which stated on the box minimum pressure 0.2 bar, the water comes out of the tap with excessive pressure. Instead of coming out at 180 degrees like a standard tap, this one shoots the water out at 90 degrees so when fully turning...

    Candy FL 134x built-in oven

Hi, Thanks for your reply. It has been reset yes. The fan has been ‘rattling’ when in use over the past few months so suspect it may have something to do with the failure. Replacing it for a new unit seems like the best option I’m sure now.

    Candy FL 134x built-in oven

When the oven was on last night the RCD tripped everything inside the flat. Now the oven does not heat up at all. The grill still works and so does the light but the oven fan has stopped spinning and there is no heat at all once it is turned on. Something obviously blew inside it last night...

Plug fuse for 50W LED floodlight

OK 3-AMP thank you. I just thought as it was coming from the outside I should use a RCD adapter in case rain water gets inside it.

Plug fuse for 50W LED floodlight

Hi, I am installing a 240V, 50W LED motion sensor floodlight outside. The power cable is to come through the brickwork and plugged into a RCD adapter, which goes into a wall plug socket. My only concern is what size of fuse to put into the plug once it is installed? Thanks

    Energy consumption of appliances

Nice tips there thanks big-all. I've been using the bare sink all this time so will get a washing up bowl which will have obvious advantages. No off peak heating here scbk, there is just a single meter at the circuit board.

    Energy consumption of appliances

Thanks Dave, I looked at them both but the cost of circa £150 then paying an electrician to wire direct to the circuit board makes me wonder how many years it would take to recuperate that money from saving on my energy bills and by that time the unit would probably be due for failure! Why...

    Energy consumption of appliances

That is what I have been considering freddy but to get the water to the right temperature requires a minimum of 5 litres boiling and I cannot seem to find a kettle online which holds that capacity.
