    Bedside wall lights

Thanks John, I thought that's what they might say. i could only find things referencing to older regs but did find a couple of things agreeing with you and EFLImpudence which through me. All cables will be within safe zones. I plan on mounting the FCU next to the socket I am spurring from on...

    Bedside wall lights

The house is actually a new build this year so everything SHOULD meet up to date standards. That being the case then one of the thin cable safe plates you get from the likes of TLC etc would be perfectly fine just to add a bit of extra security should anyone try any thing silly. I did mean...

    Bedside wall lights

Planning out this job can I confirm that a notched wall stud and cable safe plates no longer meet the mechanical protection requirements. No issues if not as I should be able to drill more than 50mm from the surface. Thanking you all again

    Bedside wall lights

That was going to be my next question but you have answered it perfectly and that is what I will do. In my diagram below I have negated the earths and neutrals which will be connected/joined correctly behind the switches either using either wago connectors or choc boxes. Thank you for all your...

    Bedside wall lights

Right so I have mocked up a quick diagram of what I am now anticipating. Hopefully someone on here could give me a little guidance on the best way to wire between the two switches and the lamps. I'm in the process of drawing that up and will post it once complete

    Bedside wall lights

Not what I meant. I meant an FCU to each lamp but I had considered doing what you suggested actually but thought it may be over complicated or over load the spur. When I get in front of my PC tomorrow I'm going to draw up a plan. I'll post it up for you guys approval.

    Bedside wall lights

Excellent thank you. I'll probably stick to two switches per lamp as I'll just use these to turn them on and off from the bed side. Kind of like a hotel room.

    Bedside wall lights

I'm looking to install two bedside wall lamps. One on each side of the bed. On each side of the bed is a socket. I have done some searching on here and google and was just wondering if you guys could confirm something for me. The sockets are part of the ring main. Am I right in thinking that...

How much can this transformer handle?

Hello again, I purchased these from ikea: http://m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/art/00119419/ Now it has 4 LED light bars in the kit but I want to know if I can add another 4 without overloading the circuit. This is the transformer that is in the kit: Many thanks Si

    Moving/adding socket

Been doing a bit more investigation into this and from what I have been reading if you are adding extra sockets to a current ring circuit the work needs to be signed off by a professional so wouldn't be able to do the job anyway :-) Anybody know any decent sparkys in the Edinburgh area??

    Moving/adding socket

Hi, not disrespectful at all. I had assumed that the job I was intending to do wouldn't need signing off by a professional. This is why I'm on here as I do not want to do anything that I shouldn't really be doing. The job itself is simple enough labour wise. And I understand about tacking the...

    Moving/adding socket

Hi casamena, I had heard that it was a ring circuit but how do I double check? This space behind the wall will be between 2" and 4" inches. I am doing a lot of planning in this as I do NOT want to do anything wrong. I'm a competent DIYer but just like to make sure everything is safe and...

    Moving/adding socket

Many thanks 'sureitsoff?' I shall put that on my investigation list as ideally I don't want to add anything else behind the DVD storage units. I should have added that in original post sorry. How do I find out what type of circuit it is? As far as I know the cables run from under the...

    Moving/adding socket

Hey folks, Next weekend I am embarking on starting to build a false wall for my new tele however I have a few questions to ask so that things can run as smoothly as possible. I have done a lot of my own research about this project but I just wanted to clarify a few things. Firstly the...
