just disconnect the car battery for a minute or so. it will reset the GEM. then try reprograming the fob with the ignition on-off sequence. usually works. the GEM is a pretty reliable module, it just gets a tad confused quite easily.

it will be the heater resistor. always is. the wiring harness multiplug melts. you get a modified loom and resistor. about 60 quid from renault, but a complete pain to fit. can be done through a hole in dash next to speedo area. takes me about 40 mins.

was it a brand new, recon or second hand distributor?

who serviced it? ask them why they didn't reset the service indicator. need to know if its on the standard or longlife service plan. i use a diagnostic machine to reset them. i think its possible to reset manually but only if the instrument cluster is programmed to the standard service plan.
