    Hijacked Thread

Well I have to say that since you have never met me and know nothing about me you are unaware of how little you know. Frankly. Now I understand how you got your very own thread.

    Is softus on holiday?

It fills in the lonely hours before they can roll their eyes again...

    Wireless internet

I can see where gaming might be an issue. Neither of them do game online - they are using the net for browsing, chat and email. I don't think the OP mentioned what he actually does online, did he?

    Nasty sarcastic eye-rollers

Well I guess I can roll my eyes with the best of them. Just wish there was an ignore function so I could make the t*ssers disappear! They have them on a lot of websites. Why not on this one?

    Hijacked Thread

Yes, that's the one. It wasn't about safety, it was about rip-off quotes. It had absolutely nothing to do with safety, and I even went and took photographs and posted them to clear things up. The trolling hijacker just got ruder and ruder and more and more unpleasant - in the face of me...

    25 million on a disk

No, I live in one of the most crime-ridden cities in the UK. I just don't know why you are making this point in this thread. I explained my point pretty clearly. Care to explain yours?

    Free heating upgrade

Aaahh... well in that case you are definitely right! West facing catches the sun (if there's any left!) at the end of the day. I can't imagine it heating up much water... Good luck. Let us know what they say. :D

Well, everyone is at risk from crime. I'm not sure what your point is? Why people that live on their own? The folk most at risk from violent crime are young men (who tend to be robbed, attacked or killed by other young men) and women and children in a domestic situation (it's usually the...

    Nasty sarcastic eye-rollers

This site could be really brilliant. So many posters on here are knowledgeable and helpful and interesting. There's tons of really useful info and hundreds of expert folk ready to share and help each other out. But there is a significant minority who turn up in every thread, rolling their...

    Hijacked Thread

A thread I started was hijacked by someone who just spent their whole time being extrememly unpleasant, very insulting, and entirely off topic. Several times I (and others) pointed out that this poster was missing the point (aka hijacking). The moderator response was to (a) lock the...

    a question about mods

I moderate on another site too, and I also find the anonymity of the mods here rather strange. I realise it's unpaid and all that; same for me in the place I do it. That doesn't justify anonymity. I don't give my *real* name, but I can only post - and moderate - under the screen name I use...

    Free heating upgrade

Gardening is better in a south facing aspect because of the warmth - as you say. Solar panels go on UV energy, not the warmth you feel. So the aspect which get the most time in the light is the best one. Which would still be the south facing one. But there's also a cost in cabling; maybe...

Nothing to do with the internet. The system they were using was either missing the most basic security precautions - the kind of thing you could have on your own PC at home - to prevent file-sharing... ... or .... someone Senior approved all this info being copied and then didn't think to...

No. A couple of people I know do this and it works fine. Very simple solution!

How to keep the cats in the garden?

Dragging the thread back on topic for a moment... :) Have you heard the phrase; 'it's like herding cats'? You can't keep those cats in without a cage. Netting, fencing, nothing will do it. As for your wife - she does realise the cats are not immortal, right? I'm a cat lover, but...

swapping files and info from laptop to laptop

Another vote for memory stick here. Or CD Rom assuming they both have burners/players and the files are BIG.

    Wireless internet

Can I suggest an alternative? Why does the PC need to be wired? Is it because it isn't Wi-fi enabled? If so; buy a Wi-fi dongle to plug into one of the USB ports. Will cost you about twenty quid and convert your non-wifi machine into a fully Wi-fi enabled PC.

Norton removal I Know old stuff sorry

Only if you know how. The poster doesn't, or they wouldn't be asking. We are suggesting alternatives. If you can offer some positive help rather than rolling your eyes at reasonably suggestions, now would be a good time to do so...
