And thanks whoever moved my question to the right forum. Its about 8 years since I had a DIY question and DIYnot is as brilliant as it was then.

Improving the insulation properties of timber frame + brick skin wall.

Wow, thanks a lot. so helpful. Actually option a) includes 12mm skimmed pbd which I would leave and cover with the 75mm+12mm kingspan/pbd. so probably even better than 13%, and it saves a whole load of time and materials.

Improving the insulation properties of timber frame + brick skin wall.

Our external walls have 90cm internal stud frame infilled with rockwool, 18mm sterling board, a 40mm gap and a brick skin. It doesn't meet thermal regs for an internal garage to room conversion. Our architect specified removing the inner plasterboard, putting in foam boards then adding 42mm...

floor level below garden level (moved from forum information)

How can I build a 4.5 x 3m timber studio on ground sloping 300mm, with an entrance at lower end flush with interior floor? The back end interior floor level would be 300mm below ground level. The main reason is aesthetic and to keep the roof line below the planning radar. I am not a builder but...

3.6m climbing frame posts - how deep concrete foundations

I'm assembling a pre-built very solid climbing frame which is 360high x 180 x 130cms. The four main 10x10cm posts are already cut for anchoring into concrete. How deep should i make the holes for the concrete? Also I plan to use some galvanised steel retaining bars heavily bolted to the posts...

climbing frame 180x130x 3.6m high - depth of concrete?

I'm about to assemble a pirate ship climbing frame - 3.6m high to ridge of its roof, 2.3 long, 1.4 wide, 100msq posts. Is it enough to bed each 100mm sq post in a concrete base 30x30x30cm with metal 'concrete in' sockets? Should these foundations be bigger? Thank you.

    decking

My brother said met posts are good for deck support. Most of the area of a 6 x 2.2m deck i want to make is over existing 900 x 600 x 50mm concrete paving slabs. I'm struggling to imagine how to do this - should i remove the slabs? Its against the house and deck Boards will run the 6m way...

stability of faked up 'traditional' shutters!

Can anyone advise the merits (or not) of using good 12mm plywood and softwood mouldings to make up working painted internal shutters for old sash and case windows in my brother's 19th c. Edinburgh flat so they look pretty correct? I have attached a sketchto show what I mean. I don't have trad...

    wood screws

There are so many wood screw types available and such a range of often high prices, I wonder if any one has found a good source of reliable and reasonably priced screws - excluding B&Q which I'm sure is not one of them.

Have just installed a second hand de Longhi oven (EDB 475ST, CPF. F6S0DX100X) only to find the top oven fan is faulty - very noisy indeed.
