I had a bang once that led to creation. 15 years of gimme gimme gimme later, I wouldn't swap him for the world.

To clear up any confusion the MCB supplying the light was switched off overnight. Switched it back on today, light came on then turned off after it's usual time. As John suggested maybe just a glitch. Thanks to all who contributed.

John, I'm popping round to my mums later. If the light still won't turn off is it sensible to just remove the bulb rather than disconnect the wiring? This will only be a short term fix while I arrange to get an electrician.

    Charnwood, good wishes mate.

Charnwood, best of luck with the chemo, hopefully it prolongs life for as long as possible. I'm 4 months into my chemo cycles, so if you need any advice or assistance I would be happy to help.

My main concern was that no switch had been provided in house to switch light off. Only way was to switch off MCB.

Just returned from my mums who was having trouble with her security light. Seemingly it had come on this afternoon, three hours later still on. No switch fitted in house to turn light off. After a bit of investigation the flex from the light seems to be wired directly into an upstairs socket...

    Outside Wiring

John, I agree totally with your views on the long reading list. A few wiki articles covering the basics would probably suffice. You seem more than capable of doing this. Isn't the point that BAS is making though is not to jump in and plough on regardless without any understanding of what...

    Outside Wiring

Sorry to buck the trend here, but as one who took the BAS option in the past I would like to add my tuppence worth. I decided to install a loft light, simple enough job I foolishly thought. After unscrewing the ceiling rose cover, I took one look at the wiring and realised I was out of my...

Songs that creep up on you

Driving home the other night I had the radio on for a bit of background. On came a song I have heard for years but never really listened to. Don McLean - Vincent. What a beautiful song. Anyone care to share the songs they see in a whole new light.

    Lease Question

Chainsaw, Can you clarify the following for me. I appreciate that in reality the lease will roll on, it's the part "You leave the property" that confuses me. So if you purchase leasehold are you the owner of that property or are you merely buying the right to live in that property for the...

    Lease Question

Never having thought about leasehold before perhaps someone could help me with the following questions. If you purchase a leasehold property, where do you stand legally when the lease runs out? Is it possible to buy out a lease and if so is this an option that makes financial sense?
