You need to focus more on your nice problem than your pipe insulation, you may put mesh on your pipes and stop them, but they may just find something else to chew threw ( like cables ) phone your local pest control company and get It sorted professionally.

Yep the tile should start from the edge of the shower tray and tile into the corner... the water will be leaking from the U channel where i shown you.

It is not ideal, but aslong as it is sealed correctly then the water shouldnt get to the plaster, is it fully tiled upto the shower enclosure on the inside of the shower ?

Yes looks like its leaking from where I'm trying to describe, that enclosure needs taking off cleaning up and starting again, no silicone should be inside the shower, watch this video at 1:50 is where I'm explaining that you need to seal, inside the U-channel not inside the shower...

So is it discharging out the over flow ? If your float valve is not shutting off fully then it may just need a new washer, probably easier to just replace though for an amateur.

Neither will work, you need equal pressures. Get a twin impeller pump and a surrey flange, screw that into the top of your cylinder, take the hot feed out of that, draw your cold feed from your header tank thats feeding your hot water cylinder ( make sure you take your cold feed from below the...

Rather than messing around taking an old second hand shower off the wall again, take it down to plumbase... just go to plumbase and buy a new shower !!
