    New Makita BL1830 battery

Does anyone have any more information on these batteries? usually with such products, they are made in the same factory as the genuine item but might have failed certain quality control aspects. they are then branded differently and sold elsewhere for less. Is there any risk to your charger...

    New Makita BL1830 battery

I recently bought a Makita BHP453 cordless drill. it only came with one battery so I have been on the look out for a second one. although this isn't my first Makita drill, it is my first Makita drill with a lithium ion battery. do I need to make sure I buy a genuine Makita battery or will I be...

Why is 4x2 no longer 4x2?

I'm not putting in a false ceiling, as in one ceiling constructed under the existing ceiling. I am simply fixing the 4x2 timber to the existing ceiling joists and then fixing the plasterboard. If this is also a false ceiling then I apologize for the mix up, but I always thought that a false...

Why is 4x2 no longer 4x2?

I recently bought 12 15ft lengths of regularized 4x2 timber. some will be used to build a new stud wall and some will be used to baton a ceiling, it has a curve at one end so I am going to baton it with 4x2 and then plasterboard and skim the ceiling. I picked the 4x2 for a reason, because that...

reasonable price to dot & dab and skim per square meter?

he is a real mate. he could return the favour by buying me a few pints next time we are out. I did say that once he has paid for all the materials, I would do the whole job from start to finish for £500. this is roughly £8 a square meter to dot & dab and skim all the walls and ceiling...

reasonable price to dot & dab and skim per square meter?

sorry, I forgot to mention that all the walls don't need to be dot & dabbed. two of the biggest walls are stud walls and the boards are for the ceiling too. when I said it is 40 square meters, this included all the walls and the ceilings. I will be doing a solid line round the perimeter of...

reasonable price to dot & dab and skim per square meter?

he did say he would like a price in advance. not that he is thinking of getting someone else to do the job if my price is too high. he likes to plan ahead with his money and he likes to know in advance exactly how much things are going to cost.

reasonable price to dot & dab and skim per square meter?

thanks for all the replies guys, I do realise that this could be classed as me cheating. all I'm asking for is a little help ;-) bearing in mind that I am not just dot & dabbing and then skimming, I have to remove the old plaster first, which is currently 30mm thick. based on my...

power tools. 240v, 110v, battery, or all three?

it will mainly be building stud walls, plaster boarding, mixing plaster and skimming. so I will be using a hammer or SDS drill if I need to drill in to brick, stone or block work. possibly a mitre saw for cutting all the timber for the stud walls, a cordless drill/screwdriver for screwing the...

reasonable price to dot & dab and skim per square meter?

Hi all I have a job to do for a friend. being a friend, I don't want him to think I am ripping him off (even though he knows I would never do that to him or anyone else for that matter) I don't want to charge him the earth but I also don't want to charge less as to make it not worth my time...

power tools. 240v, 110v, battery, or all three?

that was another thing I thought about. 240v tools when working in houses and 110v tools for site use seems a little silly. probably best to buy 110v tools all round. thanks for the advice guys.

power tools. 240v, 110v, battery, or all three?

so it doesn't matter if I choose to use 240v power tools when working in some one's house?

power tools. 240v, 110v, battery, or all three?

I did think I was but I wasn't sure, which is why I asked the question in the first place no need to be so blunt.

power tools. 240v, 110v, battery, or all three?

thanks for your reply. I always thought that it was HSE legislation that tools on site had to be 110v in case someone came in to contact with a bare cable or just happened to cut through a cable. this is just a conversation me and a friend were having earlier today. personally I had never...

power tools. 240v, 110v, battery, or all three?

apologies if this has already been asked. I know that on building/construction sites that all power tools have to be 110v or battery, but what if you are working in some one's house, do the same rules apply? for example, could I use a 240v drill and paddle mixer or would they have to be 110v...

    board finish question.

this is why I wanted to ask before I used it. I have always been lucky enough to use fresh bags of plaster and I don't usually have much left over, so using bags of open plaster isn't something I have never had to deal with. thanks for the advice.
