My Toyota C-HR hybrid has hill hold mode where you can sit at the lights without pressing the brake or having the handbrake on. If I sit for a few mins in this mode the dash shows a message telling me to put it in park. Try it in your Yaris Cross and see if it’s the same.

Check behind the boot side panels to see if there are vents, ie behind the sides of the bumper. I've had failed seals around these vents on a 2006 Focus giving a wet boot. I did this thread about it at the time.

It looks like there's enough of the head protruding on one that vise grips would probably grip it. Or you could try using a hack saw to cut a slot on the head to use a flat screwdriver. Often the metal is too flimsy once you've slotted it tho so tread carefully if you try it.

Thanks for your reply :) I think my end game is somewhere along the same lines as you. We currently have Hive and I'm considering their smart TRVs so there would be less walking around the house turning this rad off and that one on every morning/evening.
