Hot fuse - fishy smell !!

Checked out the board, it is a Wylex 804 IVY. Hard to see why that fuse alone is having problems; noticed it getting hot in general use, not just when the washing is being done. Clips could possibly be loose, hard to tell once it is pushed in! Didn't think to clean them though. Anyway, have...

Hot fuse - fishy smell !!

Having dinner at my in-laws a while back, I smelt fish, which wasn't on the menu! Smelt (no pun intended) it again recently and traced it to their fuse box, which is in the same room. The "fishy" smell was actually coming from the casing of the fuse cartridge melting. :o Having turned of...

    Shower overflow

OK, but it did the same with the hose off. :?: Unless, once activated the PRD stays activated? I'll get them to make sure the hose & head is cleaned. :?: Can anything else cause excess back pressure?

How to fix a wandering toilet seat?

I have a similar problem. Even changed the toilet seat for the type with a bar between the hinges, but it still went. I put it down to the cheap toilet bowl I bought. I'll be interested if anyone has an answer to this!

    Shower overflow

Thanks Chris. Possible, but this is more than a dribble, it's a flow! OK, I tracked down the following from tritonshowers.co.uk (you are right, Chris!): * If water is leaking from a clear plastic tube at the bottom of the unit, then the Pressure Relief Device (PRD) has been activated...

    Shower overflow

I had such great help with my own problem, I promised my father-in-law I'd post his problem as well... He has an Opal shower, probably getting on to 2 years old. Very recently water has started coming out of the overflow tube. I had a look and it comes out as soon as the shower is turned on...

    No Hot Water

:D Very good news! :D I have got it working! However, I may have to change my user name to Mr BodgeIt. Looking through my shed for something to put on the arm of the plate, so that it reached the microswitch, I came across a dust cap. It went on the arm quite well so I superglued it in...

    No Hot Water

Some good news. I loosened three screws and moved the motor away from the valve. When I turned on the HW I could see the cog on the motor turning. I then presed the microswitch and the pump fired into life! :) Looking at the plate that presses on to the microswitch, at its closest it is...

    No Hot Water

Thanks Chris. Yes, the newer MZV has a dimple and, no, the knackered one doesn't. :( I took the cover off anyway to have a look. The actuator behind the motor does move when I turn HW on, but the lever that sticks out doesn't move. I pushed it to Man Open; nothing happened. Turned HW off and...

    No Hot Water

I've never seen the arms move on either valve, they just stay on Auto. However, I turned HW on and then pushed arm over to Man Open. Held for over 20 seconds but nothing happened. Now when I turn off HW I can hear rewinding from valve box. Wasn't happening before, but has done since I tried...

    No Hot Water

Thanks Chris. On the good, and newer, left hand valve I heard the two clicks. On the right hand valve I didn't, and it tooker slightly longer to return. I did this unpowered and felt resistance in both. These are Honeywell valves; the newer one has F6 - 9816 stamped on it. Is it easy to...

    No Hot Water

Thanks for the pictures kevplumb and ollski. I cannot see a 3 port valve anywhere, and yes it looks like I have 2 MZVs. Here is a (badly drawn) diagram of what I have, not to scale obviously... The red box is the pump, the two green boxes are the MZVs, on the cylinder I have shown the...

    No Hot Water

Hi, not condescending at all just very well explained! In my system the electrics all meet in one large junction box, so I could only see what is linked by opening it, but it is difficult to get to. Even the pipe work doesn't look totally logical; there is a thin pipe, with what I guess is a...

    No Hot Water

Hi shoreman. I've never noticed a problem with the hot water when I have the CH on; it can get piping hot if needed! Hopefully that means the valve is ok then? If not, what does it look like and where would I find it? I've tried to find a diagram on the web showing more than just the ins & outs...

    No Hot Water

Thanks for the reply bathjobby. When I say turned off, I mean turned off at the programmer. Must admit when I came across this site I jumped in with both feet. Can now tell you... We have the standard indirect boiler system with pump feed. Programmer is a Drayton Tempus Three; supports CH and...

    No Hot Water

Having turned off the central heating for summer, we now have no hot water. It is tepid at best. It only heats up when the central heating is turned on. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong or where I should look first? Thanks... +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++...
