I protested that was next doors, he pointed out next doors was along a bit (in my defense, ours is in a different place from all the others in the street. )...the earth...

    As a sort of aside though and to temper my obviously 1970's electrical system I trump my own with a friends "hillbilly" electrical system that is currently reducing her house to darkness by eating those low power bulbs, her supply of "proper bulbs" is fast running out!

    ok thanks for that..would a new "whole box thingy" ie the fuse thing replaced by a new box thing with circuit breakers sort all that out? I don't think its all grounded to the water pipes, partly because the water pipes come up through the neighbors walk way (ope way) go up to the bathroom...

    Ok the green/yellow cable at the top was put in by the central heating guys and it runs over the door and to the copper gas pipe in the meter cupboard on the floor on the opposite side of the porch. you guys throw acronym round like cows in a hurricane!..is there some web site or explanation...

    spoke too soon its at it again,this time i saw it in semi darkness and it produces quite a light show, then continues as if nothing had happened. Maybe the new brushes are sticking?....

    Bosch classixx1200 express washing machine its about 7 years old. This is quite odd, but for a few months there have been the odd pop or bang from under the counter where the machine lives when its going. It was plugged into a socket under the counter and i thought it had got wet and was arcing...

    Your local council will have one im sure, also the planning office has lots of leaflets to read in there, including ones on objecting to planning permission.
